Train Moving Down an Alley Way

$19.99

The Washington County Rail Road was the first rail line to reach Brenham, traveling from Hempstead where it met up with the Houston & Texas Central Railway to continue to Houston. Eventually the H&TC would take over the line and extend it west to Austin.

Unfortunately, Hurricane Carla significantly damaged the bridge over the Brazos river to the east and the line was eventually abandoned in that direction over time by Southern Pacific. In 1979, the SP abandoned the western portion of the line between Brenham and Giddings.

Today, all that remains is a short section of track to the west of the junction with the BNSF and a couple of miles of track down to the Blue Bell Creamery, which is where this local is headed.
