BNSF Train Through Flagstaff

Warning gates flash their red lights and sound their bells. Seconds later, gates come down to block the railroad tracks to car and pedestrian traffic. A few more moments later, headlights appear around the corner to the west. An eastbound manifest train is traveling through Flagstaff, Arizona, on the BNSF’s double tracked southern transcontinental route.
Are the cars bound for Albuquerque? Or maybe they’re going to Kansas City? Or maybe their final destination is at the end of the line in Chicago?
Who knows. But for a few minutes, the sound of steel wheels running on steel rails fills the night sky. And then, finally, silence as the town goes back to normal.
